The idea for MicroVision Optical was born on the 19th hole on a golf course in sunny San Diego over 30 years ago.

Our founder, David Johnson, had just finished golfing with his fifty-something-year-old buddies when suddenly, one of the unfortunate realities of getting old struck him: he couldn't read the numbers right in front of him on his scorecard.

When he went to buy his first pair of readers, David was struck by the fact that only two options existed: cheap, low-quality drugstore readers or expensive, designer readers with fancy logos, all made by the same global eyewear producer. That night, the lifelong entrepreneur sketched designs for a foldable reader that could fit in your pocket.

And thus, MicroVision Optical started with a simple vision: to create high-quality, reliable, and affordable reading glasses that you can take with you anywhere.

MicroVision Optical has created [# patents] since then and has partnered with companies like FosterGrant, Marchon, Nike, and Callaway, as well as celebrities like Oprah and Lori Greiner, to bring our readers to the market.

Almost 30 years later, and with over a million readers designed by MicroVision Optical sold worldwide, we're still fiercely dedicated to this idea. And now, we're excited to launch the next chapter in our company's history: selling directly to our customers.
